The exuberant and aromatic 2021 Mas de la Rosa is pure Cariñena from vines planted in 1900 on very steep llicorella slate soils at 600 meters above sea level. The destemmed grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in concrete egg and Austrian oak foudre. It’s a bit jammy, with notes of black raspberries, spice and an earthy touch. It’s juicy and full-bodied, with glossy tannins and ripe flavors in the finish. 1,333 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2022. Since 2019, this is one of the new Gran Vino de Viña Clasificada, a.k.a. grand cru wines, from Priorat.
