Systembolaget: 382 kr. 30% av druvorna skördas under andra halvan av september och genomgår därefter en 30-40 dagars appassimento (torkning). Resterande del pressas och jäses direkt efter skörd. Vinstockarna planterades 1989 i kalkstensorienterade jordar vilka ger Marions signum till vinerna: eleganta, fräscha och rik komplexitet. Efter vinifiering mognar vinet i 350 liters slovenska ekfat under 30 månader.

Marion’s 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a very exciting and different portrait of a grape variety you think you know well. Territory-driven aromas of dried cherry, Italian herb, crushed stone or wet terracotta color the bouquet of this beautiful wine. There is even something distinctly “Amarone-ish” about the wine with distant flavors of dried fruit and prune. The tannins also feel ripe and velvety. Drink 2015-2023.

At the end of a long, cypress-lined drive is magic Marion. More than anyone else (including much bigger names), Stefano and Nicoletta Campedelli represent the purest expression of non-Classico Amarone that I know. Located in Marcellise in the eastern part of Valpolicella, their wines show a charmingly wild, crisp and edgy quality that you don’t find in the nearby Valpolicella Classico zone. Stefano is an accidental winemaker: He started out by producing gift bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon to give to guests at his 1993 wedding. His gift keeps on giving.
