Quinta São José – Touriga Nacional 2019

“The 2019 Touriga Nacional Quinta de S. José was aged for 12 months in used French oak and comes in at 14.4% alcohol. Ripe but elegant, this is a Touriga that has a surprisingly fresh feel to go with its blue-fruit nuances and a real backbone. This opens beautifully with expressive fruit, and it seems rather delicious; but the winery makes wines with structure too. It has some power and it closes down pretty fast. Ultimately, this will show better in the middle of the decade, but it will certainly need at least some cellar time. It looks like another super Touriga from the producer, but give it a chance to evolve and blossom. It should have a shot at making 20 years or more, but let’s be a little conservative for the moment.”
